We keep an eye on search terms and phrases that people use to find posts here on POLITUSIC, often times we’ll find a search that deserves a little attention, hence the search I saw today, “Why is Mitt Romney So Creepy?”
Personally, I think there are some other rants I’ve posted about Mitt Romney that might give more ideas why this man seems to rub so many people the wrong way, but the question still arises.
To whomever who thinks Mitt Romney is Creepy and that brought you to POLITUSIC: cheers to you. I whole heartedly agree. The man is shady with a side order of hair-standing-up-on-your-neck.
Maybe Mitt Romney isn’t “that” creepy – he could just be top of the scale, over the top socially awkward (because he’s trying to please rather than be who he is).
So I throw that one out for debate. Mitt has a bit of a strange stride, and his practiced smile tends to feel sort of slimy … but that’s no reason to asume he’s creepy in character. He’s not very at home or comfortable with anyone as far as I can tell (remember his “who let the dogs out” moment?) Even on his getaways with his family the man looks stiff. But that’s OK. People can be stiff, and that doesn’t make them creepy.
If that person is trying to be President of the United States, however, where appearance and impression are very important aspects of the political job… that people take the time to search on the Internet “why is Mitt Romney so creepy” is actually an important issue. It’s a big negative for a candidate.
America is starting to embrace the geek and socially awkward, so there’s more to it that just that. My suggestion is that it’s the whole package. When you take all of the pieces of Mitt Romney that he and his campaign have allowed themselves to show (and change at least twice), THAT’S when things start to not add up: everything becomes foggy, blurred, and shameless.
I don’t think Mitt Romney is a bad person, but he’s allowing himself to become one in hopes that he can win the office that his father, George Romney, did not. Willard Mitt has a giant chip on his shoulder coupled with a sense of entitlement the likes of which this country hasn’t seen in about a century. Mix that in with a salty and forced laugh, a refusal to talk about his religion and personal life… and basically a refusal to even talk about his PUBLIC life… dude is creepy.
Whoever you are who searched “Why is Mitt Romney so creepy” and ended up here, thanks for the chuckle, and boy howdy, you are not alone in that thought.
