Ted Cruz Playlist: Hero, Hedonist, or Hallucination? (Seattle Version)

Sen. Ted Cruz smiling
Ted Cruz is simple… and simply the next person in line taking his giant check from the Tea Party lottery. His actions reflect the stereotypical “freaking out” that happens when someone opens the door to see the lottery prize van, the giant check, and all the pretty balloons on which is printed, “WINNER!”

Ted Cruz is at war with the Republican Party. At the moment he’s directing a late night puppet show to keep his name on the Front Page by trying to Disarm Obamacare for all the donor-world to see on TV.

Many people don’t immediately see reasons why Ted would put a gun to the head of the GOP with his fake filibuster. In a Nutshell, the sidewinder-like politics that Senator “I’m-a-Harvard-Texan” is slap-happing at his party is little more than a base human reaction. It’s a reaction that happens when any breed of Animal sees a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

You ever see someone win the lottery? That’s basically what’s happening to Ted Cruz’s brain right now.

What’s hilarious is that Cruz fancies himself a refined man; above the rest. He sees himself as a man who is über such remedial, human reactions based on simple environmental changes. Sorry, Texas, but when it comes down to it: Ted Cruz is experiencing an elongated period of winning the lottery. He’s starting to react the same way most people do when given overwhelming opportunity in the flash of an eye: they get a bit out of control. What we see in Senator Cruz is the look on a person’s face, and desperate grasping actions we witness when someone is closed inside one of those cash booths. A Man In A Box. A clear, plastic box in which the lucky winner tries to grab as many hundred-dollar bills as they can while the clock ticks down – ever more desperate and increasing in energy as the clock reaches zero.

Ted Cruz: Tea Party Hero.

Senator Cruz, My Hero. He began his political career in Washington by pandering to his extreme right wing base. There’s a lot of money to be had when the base of a political party is angry. While Ted Cruz might be a bit of an elitist putz, he’s not Dumb: if you package a product in a way that you know people already like, they will buy it – and they’ll pay a high price. That willingness for the Tea Party in Texas to send a well-packaged conservative battering ram to Washington was basically all Ted Cruz needed to win his lotto ticket: a seat in the Senate.

Cruz is doing what he was sent the Washington to do: to roadblock everything that has ever crossed the mind of the first Black president. There’s no massive River of Deceit in this process, it’s not like Ted Cruz was a troll hiding Under The Bridge: we all knew that he was a crazy bird as soon as he started running for office. Most politicians like Ted Cruz only exist in the House (where the districts are gerrymandered to encourage “the crazy”), so it’s a bit novel that a senator squeezed his way through (Marco Rubio doesn’t really count, he likes to claim he’s a Tea Party man, but his values don’t reflect it. The TP just tried to annex him for awhile since when the GOP was in its “we’re terrified of the minority voter” period.)

The novelty of a true Tea Party senator like Ted Cruz gets a lot more TV time than all the Tea Partiers in the House. More TV time allows the radical GOP base who live outside of Texas get to know Ted Cruz – and that means more support and even more fundraising potential. For a man like Ted Cruz who has an ego the size of the Atlantic ocean, the result of becoming the hero of the Tea Party is that he can’t stop himself “giving the people” more of what they want. The adoration makes him feel so gosh darn good. Why Go anywhere else but the floor of the Senate where he knows with certainty that every time he says “Obamacare train wreck” in a pointless speech he instantly raises another $10,000… and it’s not as though he’s Been Caught Stealing – people give him this money… it’s like paying a cheerleader to tell the Tea Party they’re pretty.

It happened to Sarah Palin, it happened to Marco Rubio, it’s happening to Ted Cruz.

Similar to Marco Rubio, the republican base loves to put its newest hero on a pedestal, put them in the tallest tower of their Castles Made of Sand, put their face on the covers of magazines, and dub that their politician of the hour the savior of the GOP – the person who will save Freedom as they know it. Then after a couple months the republican base spits them out onto the sidewalk. The difference this time, however, is that Ted Cruz believes in his tiny, little heart that he is smarter than everyone else. When a politician thinks they’re smarter than everyone in the room they tend to get into trouble. Maybe Tomorrow Ted Cruz will fall on his face and Drop Like A Stone as did Marco Rubio, but for now, Ted Cruz is enjoying the fundraising lottery win that is being the craziest “Crazy Bird” in the Senate.

While the Republican Party has distanced itself from Ted Cruz’s rather odd Hunger Strike like behavior, what many of us outside of Republicanland don’t realize is that the Republican Party distancing itself from Ted Cruz doesn’t really matter. Congress has changed (the House more so than the Senate). It is no longer a place where people represent their district, their state, and their country… they only represent the people who donated to their campaign. There is no country, and in Senator Cruz’s case, there is no state – he only represents those with the loudest voices and deepest pockets.

For those like Senator Cruz who represent the Paranoid Android, Tea Party state of mind, being an elected official is not a job – it’s a windfall. Ted Cruz, the current hero of the Tea Party is seeking to increase his pleasure as much as possible as quickly as possible by being the most extreme, anti-Obama icon in America. His ivy league desire for money-measured success is driving the Ted Cruz brain. There is no Remedy to the Tea Party fundraising virus.

Americans ask themselves: Is this all really happening?

Apathy has long been the average American’s reaction to politics in Washington. We accept corruption, we accept gridlock, and have become Comfortably Numb to it all by lowering our expectations to such a graveyard level that we’re not disappointed by the Lies engulfing Congress anymore. This time, however, our apathy has mutated into wondering if we’re dreaming the absurdity. Is this the United States? Am I really Here or in a dream? Is the state of our country so illogical that Ted Cruz and the fringe base highjacking government on a regular basis is governmental normalcy? Or are we all simply suffering from a mass hallucination that is code named Ted Cruz and the anti-Obama-everything brigade? Whose reality are we living right now?

One man’s dream is another’s nightmare. Or so it seems.

The only shared aspect between Ted Cruz’s cash grab and mass hallucination, is that they both tend to be temporary events. Every dollar raised by exploiting Tea Party paranoia is one step Closer to Ted Cruz being a thing of the past. Senator Cruz may win another term, but his novelty and influence will eventually wane once the short attention span of the Forever Angry of America find someone else to deem their chosen savior of “American Values”. He, too, will get tired of the ploy and take a job with Fox, or more likely because he fancies himself so smarter than the rest of us, a conservative think tank (with weekly guest appearances on Fox).

Sorry, Ted Cruz’s battle with the GOP and America at large is not a hallucination, but it won’t last very long. It can end more quickly if democrats find their spines and start fighting back… but democrats charging forward to fight as a strong and well-organized group…? THAT Would be a mass hallucination.
